EU Parliament passes report on mental health in the digital world of work

The COVID-19 pandemic impacted millions of Europeans’ lives, compounding the effects on mental health and resulting in higher rates of stress, anxiety, and depression.

The younger generations, who are our future leaders and workforce, are taking the worst part: it is estimated that 9 million people between 10 and 19 years of age are living with mental health disorders.

In this context, the European Parliament has voted overwhelmingly to pass a report on mental health authored by Maria Walsh, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) and Co-Chair of Mental Health Europe. The report entitled ‘Mental Health in the Digital World of Work’ aims to set a policy standard for mental health and wellness support for workers across the EU.

MEP Walsh also calls on Nicolas Schmit, Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs, to support her request to dedicate 2023 as the European Year for Mental Health. The EU Year will raise awareness on the topic and ensure debate to address what’s already been described as a growing crisis.
